Amelia Earhart loved the bright red Lockheed 5B Vega she purchased in 1930 so much that she affectionately called it her "Little Red Bus." She set two aviation records with it when she was the first woman to fly nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean and then, nonstop across the United States.
Amelia set two of her many aviation records in this bright red Lockheed 5B Vega. In 1932 she flew it alone across the Atlantic Ocean, then flew it nonstop across the United States - both firsts for a woman. Highlighted in this image are the engine and propeller of the Lockheed 5B Vega.
After purchasing a new Lockheed 5C Vega in 1933, Earhart sold her 5B Vega in 1933 to Philadelphia's Franklin Institute. The Smithsonian acquired Earhart's "Little Red Bus" in 1966. The famed plane is now on display in the Barron Hilton Pioneers of Flight gallery at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.
Earhart was flying a Lockheed Model 10-E Electra when she and her co-pilot Fred Noonan went missing - the controls near the bottom represent that plane. Speculation and theories surround the story but the remains of the plane and the pilots have never been found.
The perfect gift for the aviatrix who has everything.

The biggies series are painted on a heavily textured surface. While it takes extra time to paint on this challenging surface, it adds a unique dimension to the finished work. The first practice pieces were urban scenes, but going forward these pieces are a celebration of womanhood and powerful feminine energy.
