Post-impressionist style on an 8x10” canvas board - painted with water mixable oils.
Since I have a stack of these smaller canvas boards, I decided to paint a landscape you can see here. I'll eventually use the water mixable oils up that I have, but I won't buy more of them. Why? Because I prefer the buttery consistency of traditional oil paint. While I like the fact these can be cleaned up with water, these water mixable oils get stickier the longer they are on the pallette. I don't have these panel paintings listed here on the site yet, I'm waiting to paint more and put them up en masse along with some mixed media and acrylic pieces. The 8x10's will be priced at $100. and the 9x12's will be priced at $125. including shipping within the USA. These panels will need to be framed, without glass covering them. Watercolors and drawings should the only art you put behind glass.

CREATING MY PATH is the latest original pyrography piece created in 2023. It was burned on an 18x24" hard maple panel and will be mounted within a floater frame which will add a few more inches to the size. While I wasn't concentrating on pyrography at all, I found a small stack of unused panels and decided to burn a scene on one. I love burning trees!
This panel shown above, along with 3 other paintings, have been entered for exhibit consideration into a call for artists for the "50 Artists of the Great Lakes Bay Region + Art Around the City," a biennial event. It's the first call for artists that I have entered in 2023. If my art is selected, I'll let you know! UPDATE: This piece was selected as part of "Art Around the City" (another piece was selected for the "50 Artists of the Great Lakes Bay Region") - it was reproduced on an aluminum plaque and is part of a two year (2024-2025) outdoor public art installation in Bay City, Michigan. The painting below, THANK YOU MR EDISON, is the first one I've made in an attempt to capture artificial lighting in an urban setting. It was painted using acrylics on an 11x14" gallery canvas.
I've got plans in my mind to paint another urban scene using oil paint relatively soon. Not necessarily a night scene, but something urban. I want more experience in painting with oils. This year, I hope to do just that. When it comes to art and creativity, I never know exactly what will happen and when because it often changes direction. Because of that unpredictable element of creativity, I've decided just to stop fretting about it. Stop trying to control it. It's time to let go and let the journey guide me in the flow, even if that flow feels like it's all over the map! Welcoming a fresh new month with February! In January 2023, my goal was to create one new 11x14" art piece a week. And, I'm happy to say that I pulled it off. It's been a transition to paint smaller but, the more I do it the more comfortable I will become. As for February, I'm hoping to create a minimum of 3 new pieces of art. Why three? Easy. I've got other things I need to work on this month. You know, fun stuff like gathering and sorting 2022 tax information, fixing a few things I've been putting off and more.
Trust me, I'd much rather be painting. |
